Crafted by Hand. Rooted in Mission.
Thoughtfully designed goods created in partnership with artisan communities in Kenya and Bangladesh.
About Us
In the late 1800s, the founder of The Salvation Army, General William Booth, sent a telegram to the organization’s leadership around the world.
It was a reminder of the mission, in one word: OTHERS.
A century later, that same mission shaped the creation of Others. Others began in 1997 as a small program within The Salvation Army Bangladesh. It offered rural women and women working in brothels a way to move toward safer, steadier work. Over time, it grew to create multiple pathways for income through craft—reflecting the different ways people engage in work.
The brand grew with these communities and into new countries, shaped by weaving, woodwork, and textile traditions passed down through generations. The name Others honors that original telegram and the people whose stories and skills are at the center of this work.
Today, Others creates handmade, thoughtfully designed goods that bring global craftsmanship into everyday life.

FAIR TRADE
Meet Our Team & ArtisansWe follow fair trade principles across our entire supply chain, guided by long-term partnerships and shared standards for pricing, quality, and production.
Our production groups and facilities in Bangladesh and Kenya are directly overseen by the Salvation Army, which means we control quality, set wages, and build long-term partnerships.
-
COMMUNITY NETWORK
Learn MoreIn many places, artisans work in local production groups alongside others in their community. This structure allows work to be coordinated and completed together, while fitting into everyday life. These groups have a social aspect as well - communal savings and loans and themed meetings.
These groups are part of how production is organized across Others, helping maintain consistency and long-term relationships beyond individual orders.
-
HANDMADE HERITAGE
Learn MoreEach piece is shaped by techniques passed down through generations. Our products are designed in Norway and developed in close collaboration with artisans, blending traditional weaving, carving, and textile craft with a distinctly Scandinavian aesthetic.
This approach brings together heritage skills and contemporary design—resulting in products that feel both rooted in tradition and relevant to modern living.
-
SUSTAINABILITY
Learn MoreWe prioritize natural, locally sourced materials and craft products built to last. Our approach supports responsible resource use, honors local ecosystems, and celebrates techniques that value quality.
Our 2 Artisan Partnership Pathways
-
Flexible & Supplemental
Some artisans work with Others through flexible production pathways that allow work to take place from home or within local community groups. This pathway is well suited to artisans living in rural areas, those with caregiving responsibilities, or others who prefer a production model that fits into daily life rather than requiring travel to a central facility.
For many, this pathway provides a supplemental household income that supports long-term planning. Artisans contribute their craft on a schedule that works for them, while meeting the same quality standards and production expectations applied across all Others products. -
Conventional Employment
Some artisans work with Others in Salvation Army-owned production facilities, where product categories such as handloom textiles and woodwork are produced onsite in a shared environment. This pathway follows a traditional employment model.
Because these facilities are owned and operated by Others, we manage wages, working conditions, and production timelines directly. This structure ensures product quality, supply reliability, and long-term continuity across our retail partnerships.
